Small Animal Veterinary Services

Our pet hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical veterinary services for our small animal patients. Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, our veterinarians stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Regular wellness exams combined with appropriate preventive care can help alleviate many serious health problems in our pets.

We are pleased to serve small animals from Massachusetts (Salisbury, West Newbury, Newbury and Newbury Port) and New Hampshire (Kingston, East Kingston, Haverhill and Seabrook).

Annual Wellness Exams

Regardless of species, all animals can benefit from routine yearly annual wellness exams. For all of our equine patients, we include physical exams, vital signs, and body condition scoring. This exam includes a more tailored approach to each barn’s deworming strategy and parasite control, as well as the appropriate vaccinations depending on your horse’s lifestyle and exposure risks. We also discuss our sedated oral exam and dental recommendations. We also offer Coggins testing, digital health certificates, senior bloodwork, and nutritional and body conditioning counseling.

For our other livestock, including our camelids or our smaller, ruminant patients we also offer hoof and foot care. We know that our porcine patients are easily stressed, so we will take care in handling pigs when it comes to their exams, so you can rest easy knowing they will receive the best possible care.

Our animal hospital offers veterinary dental services Monday through Thursday that include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgeries. Our veterinarians can evaluate your pet’s dental health during your annual wellness exams and recommend appropriate dental care as needed. During dental procedures, our digital dental radiography (x-ray) equipment allows us to identify diseased teeth and appropriately decide on the best treatment options for your pet. We also carry specific oral care diets as well as CET toothpaste and toothbrushes to help maintain your pet’s oral health.

Our veterinarians perform scheduled soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries five days a week as well as on an emergency basis. Because of the inherent risks of anesthesia, we recommend all of our surgical patients (especially older or at-risk patients) undergo pre-anesthetic examinations and blood work before surgery to ensure they can handle the anesthetics. All of our surgical patients are maintained under isoflurane gas anesthesia and the patient’s vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure.

Our animal clinic’s on-site X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We also utilize an ultrasound machine to provide us further diagnostic information and have the ability to consult with telemedicine veterinary specialists.

Our veterinary clinic’s in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Our veterinary hospital maintains a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. Our animal hospital also carries a full line of prescription diets.

Our veterinarians will provide guidance regarding your pet’s nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of companion animals through the reduction of genetic diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia. Our veterinarians offer OFA radiographs as a way for responsible breeders to further the health of their breed through careful, selective breeding programs designed to eliminate certain genetic diseases.
